Tournament Information

  • Who may participate?

All clubs, which are members of their FIFA affiliated national associations, are welcome to participate in the Gothia Cup. In countries where football is operated by the schools we also allow teams affiliated by their school football association. The tournament begins with a group play. Teams are divided into groups of four or five, where all teams are playing each other once. The first and second team of the group qualify for “Play-off A”, the other teams of the group for “Play-off B”. The tournament is played under all applicable FIFA or Swedish FA rules. All players must be insured, both for games and leisure time. Arrival for all teams is on Sunday July 15th. Kick-off for the group round games is on Monday, July 16th.

  • Number of players per team/Age control

There is no limit to the number of players in each team. However only 7 substitutes are allowed in each match of 11-a-side. In classes B11, B12 and G11, G12 you are allowed to have unlimited number of players during a single match, but only 7 on the playing field simultaneously. All players must be able to show proof of age and identity.

We recommend that all players use the same shirt number throughout the tournament.
  • Dispensations

In all 11- a side categories, dispensations will automatically be given to two players per squad who are maximum one year over aged. Again, This only applies to 11-a-side categories. For 7-a-side, no dispensation will automatically be granted. Dispensations for maximum 1 (one) player in 7-a-side teams can be applied by contacting the Gothia Cup office. Note that in 11-a-side categories you can't have more than two over aged players on the players list, i.e. you can't switch them between matches.

Age Control and check in

All participants in the Gothia Cup must make an age control to participate in the tournament. This is to make sure that all participants are eligible to participate in the age class they are enrolled in. The check in is made by the team leader at the same time as the age control.

  • Valid Identification

    We accept the following Identifications:

    - Valid Passport

Each ID MUST have photo of holder. All ID documents MUST be valid, so check now if your players have valid identification.
  • Locations for age control and check in

Check in and age controls are implemented in different places depending on how you arrive to Gothenburg and which accommodation category your team is registered in.

Teams in category A or B arriving by flight to Landvetter Airport on Friday (14th juli), Saturday (15th Juli) or Sunday (16th Juli) will do their age controls and check in at the airport upon arrival. All other teams as below.

Category A (School accommodation): Teams in category A make their age control at the school they will be staying at. Age control is often done upon arrival or at the time agreed with the school hosts.

Categori B (Hotel accommodation): Teams in category B make their age control at their hotel. Age control is often done upon arrival or at the time agreed with the hotel hosts.

Categori C (Own accommodation): Teams in category C make their age control at Heden Exercishuset (big red brick building) on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. They can also make their age control on Monday at one of the following game fields: Kviberg, Slättadamn, Åby or Kungsbacka.

PLEASE NOTE: You must have completed your age control no later than 16:00hrs (4 pm) on Monday, July 17th. For those of you who will do age control at Heden Exercishuset we highly recommend to come on Saturday, as Sunday controls usually build very long queues.

  • Important considerations

Make sure you have a completed list of participants with you to the age control. All teams have to complete its participants list digitally on the team’s My Team Info page. The list of participants can then be printed out and from there and taken as a physical copy to the age verification.

All players that will participate in the tournament MUST be included on the list of participants at age control.

You may NOT complete the list with new names after the age control.

If a player cannot be present at the age control, the name of the player must be included on the list of participants when age control is made. The player, along with responsible leaders must then come to Heden Exercishuset and do the age control afterwards for only that player. This must be done before the player plays his/her first game. NOTE! The player MUST be included on the list of participants from the beginning. You may NOT add a player who is not on the list. It should ONLY be done if a player gets injured or ill during the tournament. Then you MUST have a medical certificate stating that Player X cannot longer participate in the tournament.

A player may represent the same club/school in VARIOUS age groups, but the player may NOT represent different teams in the SAME age group.

If a player represents a club/school in several age classes, the player MUST be included on the list of participants for all teams this player will be playing with. The player MUST also attend and conduct age controls with all team this player will be playing with.
