All clubs, which are members of their FIFA affiliated national association, are welcome to participate in the Gothia Cup. In countries where football is operated by the schools we also allow teams affiliated by their school football association.
The tournament begins with a group play. Teams are divided into groups of four or five teams, where all teams are playing each other once. The first and second team of the group qualify for “play-off A”, other teams in the group qualify for “play-off B”. The tournament is played under all applicable FIFA or Swedish FA rules.
All players must be insured, both on and off the pitch.
Arrival day is on Sunday July 12th. Kick-off for the group round games is on Monday, July 13th.

* In girls and boys 11 and 12 no results are published and there is no play off. Instead there will be a second group stage. Please read more under tournament regulations.
There is no limit to the number of players in each team. However only seven (7) substitutes are allowed in each match of 11-a-side and 9-a-side. In classes B11, B12 and G11, G12 you are allowed to have unlimited number of players during a single match, but only seven (7) on the pitch.
All players must be able to show proof of age and identity, the exception of girls and boys 11 and 12 who do not carry out the age control.
In 11-a-side classes, dispensations will automatically be given to maximum two (2) players per team who are maximum one year over aged.
In 9-a-side classes, dispensation will automatically be given to maximum one (1) player per team who is maximum one year over aged.
For 7-a-side, no dispensation will be granted automatically. Dispensation for maximum one (1) player in a 7-a-side team, who already has a dispensation from his/her local football association, can be applied for by contacting the Gothia Cup office.
Note that it is not allowed to have more over age players on the participant list than specified above and switch them between matches.
Girls may play in boys teams in all classes as long as the regulations for age are followed.
In recent years we have not been able to accept all teams that wish to participate. The teams that have registered and paid the registration fee has priority. Registration counts as the date we receive the registration fee.
Deadline for making a registration is April 10th. Please note that teams who have registered and paid their registration fee first will be given priority when we reach the maximum number of teams in each category (categories A, B and C). Keep in mind that some of the categories are fully booked very early.
Category A - School accommodation:
Everyone staying at the school, players and leaders, has to pay the accommodation cost. This cost is inclusive of Gothia Card and 18 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) starting with dinner on July 12th and ending with lunch on July 18th. Minimum two, maximum four leaders per team may stay at the school. You can rent mattresses and bedding from us for an additional cost (if you bring your own mattress it can not be wider that 75 cm).
Category B - Hotel accommodation:
Hotel booked through Gothia Cup. The cost is inclusive of Gothia Card and breakfast. Contact [email protected] for pricing and availability. Lunch and dinner vouchers for meals at nearby schools can be purchased.
Category C - Own accommodation:
Teams arranging their own accommodation. All participants, players and leaders, has to pay the participant fee. The fee is inclusive of Gothia Card. Lunch and dinner vouchers for meals at nearby schools can be purchased.
For teams reaching the finals, each player will receive a medal, and the teams the specially designed Gothia Cup trophy. The two loosing teams in the A play-off semi final will receive a third place trophy and bronze medals during halftime of the final in their class. For teams reaching the finals in the B play-off there will be medals and a trophy.
A trophy is awarded the best club. Points are awarded as follows:
Top three teams per club are only counted.
By equal points the club with fewer teams taking part wins.
All registered teams have their own My Team Info login. This is your team portal where important information about the tournament is updated regularly.
Please note that each team is responsible for deadlines of when information, orders and similar are to be submitted.
Via My Team Info you will update your registration, place orders, fill out the list of participants, make payments and see your outstanding balance.
Return transfer between the airport, train station or ferry terminal in Gothenburg and your accommodation is included in the accommodation cost. Note that there is only one return transfer per team/group included. The transfer is exclusively for teams, and NOT for accompanying people. Transfer must be booked in advance at My Team Info and can only be booked for minimum ten (10) people per group.
If a team need to arrive or depart outside the tournament dates (July 12th-18th) extra nights (maximum two (2) nights) can be arranged at a cost of 15 EUR/20 USD per person and extra night. Please observe that no meals are served during the extra nights. All meals has to be arranged by the team and at the team's own expenses.
Only one school is open before and after the tournament. The team will be moved to its regular school when the tournament start. If the extra night is after the tournament the team will be moved from its regular school to the specific school for extra nights.
For people with special food needs or allergies we are able to arrange this. If you wish to order vegetarian food the cost is 10 EUR/15 USD per person. Please note that we don’t serve any dishes that contains nuts or pork. For those who have ordered special food you will receive a personal voucher that you print when you do your check in online. This voucher should be presented at every meal.
Each team that have booked accommodation through Gothia Cup receives two Leader Cards, giving entry to the Gothia Leaders Party, a Gothia Cup coach polo and entrance to Gothia Leaders Lounge at Heden. If you have more than two leaders you can purchase extra Gothia Leader Card at My Team Info for 35 EUR/45 USD each.
All teams have to check in online before their arrival to the tournament. This is done on My Team Info. The online check in can be done by the earliest on July 1st and by the latest on July 11th.
If there is any requested information missing on My Team Info you will not be able to check in online. When you have checked in you have to print your booking confirmation.
Please observe, that you must bring your booking confirmation and possible vouchers that you have printed to the tournament to collect your orders.
All payments need to be made to the Gothia Cup bank account:
The registration fee must be paid within ten (10) days of submitting the registration online. The registration fee is non refundable. The accommodation cost must be paid no later than May 10th 2020. If the accommodation cost has not been paid for five (5) days after its due date the Gothia Cup has the right to cancel your registration without any right to a refund or compensation for the registered team or club. For hotel accommodation see your booking confirmation.

Once we receive the payment of your registration fee we will confirm your registration. Note that all bank transaction fees have to be paid for by the teams. You have to pay in the currency (Euro or USD) that is the most ”natural” currency in your country. Please observe that we do not accept any personal or company cheques.
April 10th: Registration closes
May 10th: Due date for the accommodation cost/participation fee for all participants who stay in a school, a hotel or have booked their own accommodation. Both leaders and players pay this cost/fee.
June 10th: Due date for payments of extra orders such as extra Gothia Cards, extra Leaders Card, special food or meal cards. Also the deadline to cancel players, after this date a doctor’s certificate is required for refund of the accommodation cost.
July 12th: Arrival day, no matches are played.
July 13th: The matches begin. Opening ceremony
July 18th: Finals and departure day
The team manager in charge is obligated to ensure that all participants are insured on the pitch. Each participant is responsible for his/her personal insurance off the pitch. Participants from countries that have no medical insurance agreement with Sweden must have personal medical insurance. Neither Gothia Cup nor the organizer has collective insurance to cover injuries, illness, theft or damages.
We urge all participants and leaders to never leave valuables or money unattended at the school.
We reserve us the right during the tournament when needed to move a team from their accommodation to be lodged in another accommodation and the right to dismiss a participant from Gothia Cup accommodation if the participant commits criminal offense or at repeated occasions violates our rules.
For teams with booked accommodation through Gothia Cup the team manager as indicated on the participants list is responsible for the team's behavior.
Neither Gothia Cup nor the organizer is responsible for compensation and they are also not responsible for financial losses or damages that may occur due to events outside the control of Gothia Cup or the organizer, such as war-like events, fire, flood, interruptions in public transport connections, government actions, strike or other similar circumstances.
We accept the following identifications:
Each ID MUST have photo of holder. All ID documents MUST be valid, check now if your players have valid identification.
The age control can be carried out on all playing fields used during the Gothia Cup. At the playing fields the age control will be open as long as matches are being played.
The age control must be completed at the latest at Tuesday on 12.00 hours. The teams can play both Mondays and Tuesdays matches without having completed the age control.
The age control can also be carried out at Exercishuset at Heden at the following times:
Saturday July 11th, 12.00-16.00
Sunday July 12th, 08.00-21.00
Monday July 13th, 08.00-19.00
Tuesday July 14th, 08.00-12.00
Make sure you have a completed list of participants with you to the age control. All teams have to complete the participants list digitally at My Team Info. The list of participants then have to be printed and brought to the age control.
Teams in the age categories girls and boys 11 and 12 do not have to do the age control. Teams in these age categories only need to submit the list of participants. The list of participants can be submitted at the same locations where the age control is taking place.
All players that will participate in the tournament MUST be included on the list of participants. You may NOT complete the list with new names after the age control is completed.
If a player cannot be present at the age control, the name of the player must be included on the list of participants when the team is doing the age control. The player, along with a responsible leader must then go to Exercishuset at Heden to complete the age control afterwards for only that player. This must be done before the player plays his/her first match. You may NOT add a player who is not on the list. It should ONLY be done if a player gets injured or ill during the tournament. Then you MUST have a doctor's certificate stating that player X can no longer participate in the tournament.
A player may represent the same club/school in VARIOUS age groups, but the player may NOT represent different teams in the SAME age group. If a player represents a club/school in several age classes, the player MUST be included on the list of participants for all teams this player will be playing with. The player MUST also attend and conduct the age control with all team he/she will be playing with.
