B12: Lizzy decided close affair with magnificent free kick

The B12 final between Lizzy Football Club from Ghana and Mountain FC 1 from Canada was even for a long time – until Lizzy struck with a beautiful free kick.

Lizzy was there to defend last years trophy, as the club won the 2017 B12 final. Mountain FC 1 on the other hand, had to beat their own team, Mountain FC 2, in order to get to the finals.

The first half was characterized by good defensive play and passing in the central area of the pitch. Lizzy started best, with a free kick hitting the crossbar, but the first half offered few chances.

The Ghanaian team had most of the possession, while Mountain FC tried to counter their way to a goal.  Here and there, one team broke through for a shot, but mostly from long distance and easy for the goalkeepers in each team to get to. But neither team managed to score, and the first half ended 0–0.

At half-time, Mountain FC 2 made an appearance as well, as they got to enter the podium to recieve their bronze medals.

In the second half, Lizzy started to put on even more pressure and could almost take the lead with a header. A few minutes later, it was Mountain FC:s turn to get a chance on a header that went close outside the goal post.

It wasn’t a header, but a magnificent free kick from Lizzy that proved to be the first goal, as Abdul-Gafaru Abubakari’s shot bounced in via the crossbar.

Later, he also provided the assist as he passed to a free Adewusi Owolabi Emanuel, who cooly dribbled past the keeper to score 2–0.

Lizzy closed the game with another goal, before it was time to celebrate the victory with dance together with the trophy on the podium.  The player of the game? Free kick taker Abdul-Gafaru Abubakari of course.
