G18: Kungsbacka keeper hero in dramatic penalty shootout

Two teams that had already endured penalty shootouts in the play offs had to endure one more, as Kungsbacka beat Djursholm in the Girls 18 Final.

The last final of the day was an all-Swedish affair, where east met west. The game between FC Djursholm and Kungsbacka DFF was tied all the way to the end, before Kungsbacka could bring home the trophy for the Girls 18 category.

Kungsbacka created the most in the first half, even though it was a half with few chances. Having a little bit more possession than Djursholm, Kungsbacka managed to get some shots against goal, with two barely going past the posts.

Kungsbacka had their best situation when Ronja Neriada Cisterna broke free and was one on one with the goalkeeper, but took a bit much time before finishing and the chance was lost.

Djursholm on the other hand, didn’t create much opportunities, but played a physical game. That led to them winning more challenges and successfully stopping Kungsbacka from getting to better situations.

Second half started much as the first, with Kungsbacka and Ronja Neriada Cisterna getting a good chance with a half volley on goal

Soon, Kungsbacka took contol of the game, smartly keeping the ball with the team and quickly winning it back when it wasn’t. Djursholm continued to defend bravely, but rarely got past Kungsbacka.

Kungsbacka’s Elvira Johansson got the last chance with a long-distance shot, that forced a good save by Ida Granberg.

But the two teams had to go through a penalty shootout. It was a well known situation for both teams, as Kungsbacka hade won their quarter-final on penalties and Djursholm both their two previous games on penalties.

The tense drama continued, as Kungsbacka keeper Karolina Bucaro Stenman saved the first, going to her right. Madeleine Mårtensson followed up by putting her penalty away cooly.

Djursholm’s Lisa Rasmusson equalized and Djursholm keeper Ida Granberg could see to it that the score was still equal with a save.

Djursholm took the lead by Julia Hagman, and Kungsbacka’s Ella Wallfur Skiljic equalized again, to 2-2. But it was Karolina Bucaro Stenman who was the hero, as she saved both Djursholm’s following penalties, with Elvira Johansson scoring in between.

Rightfully, Karolina Bucaro Stenman, was also awarded the MVP title after the game.
