The club name says AP Top 54 but there is a possibility to change it to AP Top 1 as the Polish side went all the way to the victory in the Boys 15 category. They did it by conceding only one goal in the whole tournament.
Nor Iceland or Poland made it to the play offs at the World Cup a few weeks ago – but teams from their countries went all the way to the Boys 15 final at The World Youth Cup. Both Stjarnan and AP Top 54 impressed on their paths to the finals by winning eight straight games each.
However, only one club could win a ninth and the strong defenses from both sides kept in 0–0 until the very last seconds of the first half. Norbert Ramotowski received the ball just outside the penalty area and fired off a beautiful shot impossible to save for the Icelandic goal keeper Bjarki Arnaldarson.
In the second half Stjarnan had a lot of ball possession in their attempt to score the equaliser and it took less than five minutes for them to score. Runar Ingolfsson became the first player in the tournament to score on AP Top 54. Just inside the penalty box got the ball past both the defenders and the goalkeeper and celebrated Ronaldo style.
Eight minutes later it was time for another dream goal from the Polish team. This time Aleksander Olszewski beautifully curved the ball so it went in right next to the left post.
Once again Stjarnan had to go for the equalizer and in the 48th minute Örvar Logi Örvarsson forced the Polish goalkeeper Wiktor Krasowski to a magnificent save. Shortly after Gunnar Orri Adalsteinsson came one on one by the Krasowski but the shot went just outside the post. After Stjarnan received a red card with six minuted left to play they didn’t have more energy to create chances good enough to score on.
After losing on penalties in the eight final last year AP Top 54 finally became the Top 1 team in the tournament.
– This is amazing! We lost the round of 16 last year and it was our turn to win now. It’s hard to find word, it’s fantastic! I can’t even explain the feeling, says Filip Kulikowski.
