B14: Lizzy FC dominant in second Gothia Cup win of the tournament

To the rhythm of a whole drum section, Ghanaian Lizzy brought home the second trophy of this year’s tournament after 4-0 against SKF Bulgaria.

Lizzy FC was not only looking for a second trophy in this year’s tournament, as the club won the B12 class yesterday, but also revenge, since they lost the B14 final against Pequeninos do Jockey last year.

SKF Bulgaria came to the finals with two more games played than Lizzy, which also meant they had one more win than Lizzy’s eight, on the road to the finals.

Lizzy put early pressure on SKF Bulgaria, keeping the ball on the attacking side of the pitch and the result came mostly in set pieces, with several corners awarded to Lizzy.

Mawuli Kwame Mensah had a shot that barely was tipped over the cross bar by Kristian Krastev in SKF Bulgaria, and they were also the players that was most involved in the chances in the first half.

Kristian Krastev was forced to strong saves, but he couldn’t do anything when Mawuli Kwame Mensah scored the first goal. It was a beautiful one, where Lizzy’s number 6 trapped the ball with his chest and firing off a volley over the SKF Bulgaria keeper.

Soon, he was the center of attention again, serving a pass that Bernard Boadi Safo could put away easily close to to the goal line.

Bernard Boadi Safo scored again just minutes later, but this time it was all on his own. After being awarded a penalty, he rolled in the ball just inches inside the right hand post.

The 3-0 lead was celebrated with sounds the Ghanaian team’s supporters, who treated Gamla Ullevi to the rhythms of a whole drum section.

Lizzy continued to test Krastev and the SKF Bulgaria defense, but the Ghanaian team proved to be a number bigger and they could end the game with another goal, with the last touch of the game.

Mawuli Kwame Mensah, who was named MVP, was very emotional and happy after the win:

– It’s feels very great to win this game. Now we are going to celebrate the whole team, it’s hard to describe the feelings, says Mawuli Kwame Mensah.
