Three Brazilian, two Swedes, a Scotsman and a Dutch – they all have one thing in common. They have all qualified for the big Gothia eCup final in Gothenburg.
Last year it was premiere for Gothia eCup, a virtual football tournament during the Gothia Cup week. Then it was only open for Swedish participants, this year it has been open world wide for everyone between 12 and 18 years old.
The game used is FIFA 18 and both Playstation 4 and Xbox One players have been able to participate.
During May four qualification tournaments has been held and seven boys have now won tickets to Gothenburg and the final which will be held live on the stage during Gothia Cup the 19th of July.
The best of all? There is one spot left in the final and it is up to the players in Gothia Cup to fight for it. At Heden in Gothenburg there will be wildcard challenges 16th to 18th of July.
More than 2,200 players from all over the world have participated in the qualification tournaments and four of the seven finalists are based in Europe (two in Sweden, one in Scotland and one in the Netherlands). The remaining three all come from Brazil.
One of the qualification tournament winners is the 17 year old Adam Ryan from Stirling in Scotland. He is a big football and Rangers FC fan and plays as a central midfielder for the local team Stirling City FC.
He has played FIFA since he was just a couple of years old.
“The first FIFA I owned was actually FIFA 06. I used to play offline modes such as career mode and kick off until FIFA 12. In FIFA 12 I started playing online seasons with Atletico Bilbao and also Santos and began climbing the divisions. FIFA 13 was when I first started playing ultimate team and since then I haven’t looked back”, he says.
Even though he qualified at the first attempt it wasn’t a smooth way to the victory.
“Very frustrating is the word I would use. I got taught a tough lesson in the first match which I actually lost 8-4. This came as a shock to me as I didn’t realise how different H2H was than FUT so I knew I had to adapt. I had my doubts sometimes wether I was going to make it but I managed to get tips from others and implement certain patterns into my game which made me very hard to beat”.
In the semifinal he beat YimmieHD (who later qualified for the final tournament) and in the final Breno_sm from Brazil was beaten after two dramatic and intense games.
“I ran out the room and started to shout I can’t describe the feeling it was simply amazing”, an excited Adam Ryan says.
