Tipselit Trophy is the tournament component in which only invited teams get to participate. The invitation is based on Swedish Elite Football’s (SEF) certification model and ranking system. In the B17 class, 12 teams are from Sweden and 12 teams are from abroad. The Swedish teams are now confirmed, announced and presented below.
Coming from Uppsala this year is IK Sirius, which has never participated in the Tipselit Trophy before. Tomas Andersson, who is in charge of the Tipselit tournament, considers it refreshing to have newcomers.
“It’s great, it’s always fun when there are new teams. It will be an experience for them,” says Tomas.
Why is this tournament so significant for Gothia Cup?
“In part, you get to meet really great Swedish opposition as well as really strong opposition from abroad, from different cultures. There are teams from Africa, Europe and South America. It’s very educational.”
What response do you usually get from participants?
“A really good response. For the last few years, there have also been more teams who go on from each group, which means that more players have the opportunity to go further in the tournament.”
Last year, Right to Dream from Ghana won the final against Nigerian TikiTaka Academy. This year’s edition of Gothia Cup Tipselit Trophy will take place 15–21 July.
