Gothia Cup expands to Alingsås
Gothia Cup expands to Alingsås 2018. In cooperation with Alingsås IF and the municipality of Alingsås, the world’s largest youth tournament offers playing fields and accommodation in the small town outside of Gothenburg – famous for its cosy cafés!
“In Alingsås our participants will experience the idyll of a smaller Swedish city, great playing fields and only 30 minutes by train to the city center of Gothenburg”, General Secretary Dennis Andersson says.
Starting 2018, Gothia Cup teams will both be accommodated and play their games in Alingsås. Mjörnvallen, with its proximity to the lake Mjörn, will be the main playing field. Participants will not only get the chance to play at a fine grass pitch but also have the possibility to cool off in the lake after the games.
Alingsås is located 45 km northeast of Gothenburg and is a calm and hospitable city, with proximity to everything.
“With Alingsås as an accommodation and playing area we can – just like we do in Kungsbacka, south of Gothenburg – offer our guests an alternative to the more intense pulse of central Gothenburg. Our guests have different requests and needs and we are happy to be able to offer Alingsås with its unique environment”, Dennis Andersson says.
The teams staying in Alingsås will play all their group games, including the initial playoffs, in the city. Participants can easily go to Gothenburg by train, connecting the two city centers in just 30 minutes.
Each year, Gothia Cup attracts approximately 1 700 teams from about 80 nations. In 2018, the tournament will be played in Gothenburg, Mölndal, Kungsbacka and Alingsås. Accommodation will also be offered in Partille.
