Juli 17-23 2011, Gothenburg, Sweden

Year 1975

It was a success right from the word ”go”. The first Gothia Cup tournament attracted 275 teams, which played 700 matches on 16 different playing fields. This was certainly a large undertaking for such a new and untried organisation. For many of the visitors, who had travelled a long way, the artificial grass at Valhalla was something very exotic. The newspaper headlines proclaimed a ”Dream start for the Gothia Cup” and journalist Reine Feldt wrote that ”Here is the embryo of brotherhood between peoples. Everyone is agreed that the Gothia Cup is a great success and must continue.” Hammerby’s D-class boys were adjudged to have played the most exciting football. The other classes were won by Örgryte, Landskrona, Gais (Gothenburg) and Askeröd.
