Ever since Tauhichi´s last appearance the audience at Heden have been looking for a worthy successor. A team that play an offensive football and can offer a quality beyond the ordinary. On June 14, 2008 at 16:40 they entered the playing field, Cruzeiro EC.
The team is one of the most successful in Brazil and last year they ended up on third place in the Brazilian league. Cruzeiro’s youth teams are some of Brazil’s most successful teams and they are always fighting for the big titles.Cruzeiro’s first match was played at Heden 4 against Kullavägens BK, Sweden, and finished 8-0 to the team from Brazil. More than 800 spectators watched that match. The following day 4000 people attended at the match were Cruzeiro won over the great team from Peru, AD Cantolao, with 3-0. The way to the final also included a 5-0 victory against last year’s winner Kampala Kids League from Uganda in round of 32. The finals at Ullevi were seen by the total of 18,000 people. A new chapter in Gothia Cup history was written and many of the players in the team are predicted future professionals.

This summer, you can again see Cruzeiro in Gothia Cup. The team will participate in the new super class for specially invited teams, Boys 17. They will play against teams as Cruz Azul, Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton, 12 teams from the Swedish Allsvenskan etc.
After last year’s success Cruzeiro is one of the favourites but this year they will meet even stronger teams. So prepare yourself for tough games when the world’s future professional plays at Gothia Cup 2009.
Both semi finals and finals for B17 are played in at Gamla Ullevi. Be sure to be on time (see ”Gothia Finals”). Gamla Ullevi only takes 18,000 spectators.
